Are you a tone deaf singer with good looks but you’re broke on your ass but you still wish to make it big?  Well look no further than Svengali!  Need auto-tune to become a star?  Svengali says, screw that!  He’ll make you an instant star over night with his occultic powers he’ll be able to turn you into a instant star!  Strep right in into this lexicon of literature based on the book classic book Trilby.  Svengali is one of the best horror movies you will ever see!

Svengali is  a 1931 horror type drama that was distributed and produced by Warner Bros.  Starring the legendary John Barrymore and his beautiful co-star Marian Marsh.  Directed by Archie Mayo, with screenplay written by J. Grubb Alexander.  Svengali is based on Trilby (1894), a gothic horror novel by George du Maurier.  The film would be so successful that Warner Bros would re-team Barrymore and Marsh again in another horror film great, The Mad Genius.

Even though this movie is nearly a century old it has aged quite well.  Psychological horror and scheming of John Barrymore’s character is perfect!  Barrymore plays the perfect villain and Marsh is the perfect match for his mechanations.  So much so that the word Svengali entered the English language meaning Evil Mentor.

Svengali is splashed with moments of perfectly quipped humor but you know right away something isn’t right about Svengali (John Barrymore).  You soon are in a “what the hell?!” moment when Svengali reveals his hypnotic powers.  The cinematography of when he first hypnotizes Trilby (Marian Marsh) will also entrance you.

It’s then revealed that Svengali uses his powers to control Trilby and turns her into a instant talented star over night.  Kinda like today with all of the Illuminati controlled music we have.

The set design of this movie is so good you would think that Tim Burton was directed this film.  It’s ghostly gothic interludes are so enigmatic you’re compulsed the moment Svengali reveals his true nature.

This film is definitely one of the best horror films ever made.

So grab your Svengali deck of magic playing cards, sharpen that beard up and entrance your loved ones to sit down and watch this movie tonight in the dark.

You will thank me for it!
